The Certificate in Faith and Justice is a generalized course of study. It is designed to incentivize learners (students) to explore a variety of subjects and competencies while at the same time building a broad foundation suitable for faithful service, further educational pursuits, or both. College experience is preferred.

Persons interested in earning this certificate should notify the JCSTS office at info@jcsts.org. The email should include:

• name

• address

• telephone number

• generation (e.g., Baby Boomer, Millennial)

• educational background

• work/vocation

• personal interest in this program

• any JCSTS courses taken in the last 12 months

​

Interested persons may begin their studies at any time. Courses are available 24/7, are self-paced, and easily accessible via the JCSTS website. No access codes are required.

 

Here's how it works:

 

For every course completed from the JCSTS catalog, a learner is assigned a badge. When a learner earns a minimum of seven badges, she or he becomes eligible for the Certificate in Faith and Justice.

 

Having earned a minimum of seven badges, the learner's next step is to request a certificating consultation in writing to info@jcsts.org. Be sure to include the names of all courses taken at JCSTS within the last 12 months. 

 

Once the consultation request is reviewed, the learner will be scheduled for a 60-minute live, online consultation with two JCSTS representatives. The purpose of the consultation is to provide the learner with an opportunity to ask questions, discuss the educational process, and demonstrate proficiency in one of JCSTS' core competency areas:

2. Interpersonal Communication

3. Biblical Literacy

4. Scripture Reading and Interpretation

5. Theological Literacy

6. Ethical Behavior

7. Community Engagement and Advocacy

8. Public Oratory and Preaching

9. Congregational Leadership

10. Service

Afterwards, contingent upon the recommendation of the JCSTS representatives, the learner will be awarded the Certificate in Faith and Justice. The awardee will receive a digital certificate within 24 hours of successful completion of the consultation. A paper copy of the certificate is available on request. Please allow ten business days for delivery.

 

Like all JCSTS courses, this certificate program is free through October 30, 2026. After November 1, 2026, the price of the program is $300 and is due when the certificating consultation is requested. No consultation will be scheduled until this fee has been paid.

A reasonable time to complete this program is 90 days. Some learners will move through the content at faster pace, some at a slower pace. All good.  Learners may take all the time they want to complete the program keeping in mind that only courses taken within the preceding 12 months will apply toward  the conferral of the certificate.

JCSTS reserves the right to refuse the conferral of this or any certificate on the grounds of inappropriate behavior, hate speech, incompetence, or other unseemly acts.

All consultations are recorded and are the property of JCSTS.
